Services for Parents of College Students

Parent Warmline

The Parent WARMLINE is a non-emergency telephone and e-mail support and consultation service for parents of college students. Any parent who has a concern about his or her child's adjustment to the University of Maryland or overall mental health can use this confidential service. In general, calls are returned within one to two working days.

Examples of questions and topics parents have already asked us are:

  • How can my son/daughter find out more about the Counseling Center and available services?
  • I am both excited and worried about my son's/daughter's first visit home after attending college. What should I expect?
  • There are some stressful things going on at home. How will this affect my son/daughter who is away at college?
  • My son/daughter is having trouble getting along with his roommate. How do I help him/her make the situation more bearable?
  • How do I know if my son/daughter is depressed?
  • How can I show I care without having my son/daughter see it as interfering?
  • My son/daughter is really struggling with his/her classes. Is it possible he/she has a learning disability?

If you have these questions or others about your own and your student's
adjustment to college, contact the Parent Warmline staff at
