Counseling Center

Our internship program provides training for individuals who are interested in pursuing employment and careers in a college or university counseling center setting. The internship involves participation in supervised individual and group counseling, outreach activities, supervisory experiences with practicum students, alternative treatment modalities, consultation, research, and evaluation. Participation in staff meetings, committees, and case conferences, seminars, and involvement in administrative functions are expected and encouraged. Interns are expected to work one evening during the course of the work week.

Qualifications:

• Formal approval of doctoral dissertation proposal prior to starting date of internship.
  
  
• Enrolled in a doctoral program in counseling psychology or clinical psychology.
  
  
• Completion of all required doctoral course-work, practica and comprehensive examinations.
  
  
• Applicants from APA-Accredited Programs are preferred.

November 5, 2007. The University of Maryland Counseling Center adheres to all notification guidelines established by the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers.

• Three letters of recommendation from the following::
  
  
  • Major academic advisor and/or dissertation supervisor;
    
    
  • Two practicum supervisors familiar with candidate's applied performance.
    
    
• APPIC Academic Program's Verification of Internship Eligibility and Readiness Form.
  
  
• Official transcript of graduate credits.
  
  
• APPIC Application for Psychology Internship.
  
  
• University of Maryland Application.
  
  

Sending Application Materials:

Forward a complete packet of application materials, including three letters of recommendation (signature of the recommender across the seal on the back), official transcripts, and other supporting documents.
