EDCP 108C - Career Clarification: Choosing a Major


EDCP 108C is a 10-week, one credit class taught by staff at the University Counseling Center. This course is designed to help students choose a major, confirm a choice already made, or generate alternative majors. Individual interests, values, personality style, and academic skills are explored. Course content is delivered through a variety of learning modes, including lecture, small group discussion, assessment instruments, and experiential activities that encourage self-reflection and interaction among class members.

Learning Outcomes
By fully participating in this class, you will:

  • understand how individual interests, values, and abilities relate to choosing a major
  • identify at least two majors suited to you
  • develop a support system for major/career decisions
  • learn effective career decision-making
  • have declared a major and/or developed a "Next Steps Career Plan"

Sample Course Syllabus

EDCP 108C is the 1st of a 3-part series of career development courses designed to help you make important career decisions during your college years. Courses are offered both fall and spring semesters and are one credit each. Although these courses are designed to build upon each other, you may enroll in any of the courses without taking the others in the series. Students should enroll in only one of these courses in any given semester.
