Mission statement: LAS supports the University of Maryland's mission by:
  • Fostering the education, critical thinking and intellectual growth of UM students.
  • Helping students develop personal and academic strategies, positive attitudes toward learning and the self, and behaviors which empower them to be successful in college and life.

Vision statement: LAS is the premier academic success service on campus. Through collaboration with other campus partners we provide innovative and supportive services to help all UM students achieve success in college and life.

    • We have walk-in hours available
      Monday: 10am-1pm, 3:30pm-4:30pm
      Tuesday: 11am-4pm
      Wednesday: 1pm-3pm
      Thursday: 11am-12pm, 2:30pm-3:30pm
      Friday: 11am-4pm

    • The Center for Teaching Excellence's has produced an article entitled "When Students Struggle," which discusses student difficulties and ways to help them. Included in this article is a highly complimentary shout out to the Counseling Center's Learning Assistance Service. Well done, LAS!

    • Get more information about the Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) program or if you are interested in applying to become a PAL educator.

    • The Guided Study Sessions (GSS) Program offers FREE, regularly scheduled study sessions for ANSC 212, ASTR 100, BIOL 105, 106, 201, 202, 207 and 222; CHEM 131, 231, and 241: CMSC 131; ECON 200; PHYS 161 and PSYC 100. In GSS, you can develop strategies for studying in the course and prepare for quizzes and tests using a collaborative learning process. See the Spring 2014 schedule.
