General Math

  • Math Applets - Tons of java applets separated by topic, including applets for middle school math, trigonometry, calculus, vectors, complex numbers, Conic Sections, and misc math.
  • S.O.S. Math - A great site for math help at all levels. Includes help for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Differential Equations, Complex Variables, and Matrix Algebra.
  • Ask Dr.Math - College students and professors helping K-12 students with their math questions. Based at Swarthmore College and staffed mainly by Swarthmore students, staff, and faculty. Students are encouraged to send in their math questions.
  • Math Forum Research Collection - Connects to all different types of math information.
  • Math2.org - Formally "Dave's Math Tables." A very versatile site solving math problems from arithmetic to calculus and beyond.
  • Flash Cards -This is an interactive flash card site. You can choose among addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; simple or complicated problems; and how many digits the numbers will have. This is a good site to practice arithmetic skills, without word problems!
  • MathDEN - Large collections of interesting math problem sets in several stages, plus math challenge problems, hints for calculating in your head faster, and more. This is a very nice site. You'll need to register (no charge) or use the login id "guest" and password "guest". Check out the "math on the net" for more fun stuff.
  • The Math Forum - A virtual center for math education on the Internet; includes pages specifically for educators and mathematics through calculus. (This site was formerly called The Geometry Forum). Click onto the Student section for help in a variety of math disciplines.
  • Math Leaque Help Topics - This is a help resource for arithmetic. It contains help on whole numbers, decimals, data statistics, fractions, geometry, ratio proportion, percentages, integers, metric units measurements, an introduction to algebra, and positive and negative numbers, all in an easy to follow format(with examples). It is designed for 4th through 8th grade but it looks useful for all ages.
  • Math Homework Help - A collection of links to sites that provide help with math homework, mostly by email.
  • MathMagic - Math problem challenges on the net. Enjoy the challenges on your own, or register to submit your answers along with other participants.
  • MegaMath - An absolutely wonderful collection of creative and imaginative ideas, exercises, and fun things to do for all ages. From the Computer Research and Applications Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
  • Math on Web - An Interactive Math Utilities Page where you can: Evaluate a mathematical expression in "n" variables, Solve a single dimensional function, Solve Kepler's equation, Minimize a function, fit a curve to a set of data points, and more.
  • MathsOn-Line - A project based at the University of Vienna, Austria, and running since March 1998. Its goal is the construction of a modern mathematics learning site on the web. It has a large variety of interactive math tutorial applets which are interesting (Java calculator, 3D plotting, and others).
  • Cut the Knot - A mixed bag of interactive math puzzles and philosophy. Many of these require Java and/or JavaScript.
  • WebMath - The internet site that solves your math problems. A variety of problem solving situations, from basic mathematics to algebra, quadratic functions and physics.

Algebra

  • S.O.S. Math - Algebra - The Algebra section of SOSMath.com. Includes help in fractions, linear and quadratic equations, complex numbers, logs and exponentials, systems of linear equations, and more.
  • Algebra Activities - Links to algebra problems, software, and interactive webpages.
  • Zona Land - In Zona Land you will find educational and entertaining items pertaining to physics, to the mathematical sciences, and to mathematics in general. This site is heavily loaded with Java, VRML and JavaScript so be prepared! They have EZ graph and EZ evaluator which are great for algebra. Click onto the "more math than science" section.

Geometry

  • Geometers SketchPad Sketches - A great site for vizualizing geometric situations. Features animated "sketches" of many geometric topics.
  • Geometry Problems - Click on problems of the week (POW) or problems of the month (POM) for geometric activities and problems.
  • Non-Euclidean Geometry - Description of non-Euclidean geometry, along with a software package, NonEuclid, an interactive simulation of the Poincare Model of Hyperbolic Geometry. This is for upper level geometry.

Calculus

  • OJK's Pre-Calculus Page - A very useful site covering a ton of material from linear equations, through Trigonometric Functions, right up to some basic Calculus topics.
  • S.O.S. Math - Calculus - SOSMath.com's calculus site. Includes help in sequences and series, limits, differentiation, integration, and more.
  • Graphics for the Calculus Classroom - This is a collection of graphical demonstrations developed for first year calculus, but suitable and interesting for high school students as well. From Douglas Arnold at Penn State.
  • Calculus-Help.com - Features Problems of The Week, some links to other sites and also a cool "Interactive Cheat Sheet" showing the basics of Limits, Series, Derivatives, Integrals, and Diff. Eq's.
  • The Integrator - runs interactively using Mathematica to perform integrals for anyone with a web browser. By simply typing in any integral or choosing a random sample, the Integrator sends a Mathematica Link message to a Mathematica kernel, which then does the integral using its built-in Integrate function. The result is sent back within seconds to the Integrator Web Page for you to see.
  • Calculus Problem of the Week - Writes an AP Calculus problem every week school is in session. Has multiple choice calculus problems as well.

Basic Probability

  • CHANCE - This data base contains materials designed to help teach a CHANCE course. CHANCE is a new introductory course being developed cooperatively by several colleges and universities. It is a case study course based upon current chance events as reported in the daily newspapers. Click here for info on statistics software.
  • Numeroscope - The Numeroscope is a multi-media, interactive laboratory for exploring the number systems which form the basis for today's cryptography. There are some interactive problems which looked like fun but take a while to appear.

Advanced Mathematics

  • Abstract Algebra On-Line Study Guide - A nice site dedicated to providing help in Abstract Algebra. Covers such topics as Groups, Rings, Fields, Galois Theory, and more. Could be helpful to students in MATH 403.
  • IRA - Interactive Real Analysis - A great interactive textbook for referencing theorems, definitions, etc. Also includes proofs and problems. A good resource for students in MATH 410 and 411.
  • SOSMath.com - Matrix Algebra - S.O.S. Math's Matrix Algebra site is great for students in a linear algebra course. Provides help with Matrix Operations, Determinants, Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors, and more. Should be helpful to students in MATH 405.
  • SOSMath.com - Differential Equations - S.O.S. Math's Differential Equations site. Its very thorough; you will most likely find what you are looking for. Should be helpful to students in MATH 414.
  • The vector cross product - A nice java applet illustrating vector cross products. You can grab and move the terminal points of vectors a and b and see the effect on their cross products. You can also tilt the plane that a and b lie in.
  • The M. Casco Learning Center - A cool site featuring tons of applets and information for physics, mechanics, and chaos. Also with a glossary of terms.

Tables, Constants, and Definitions

  • Math Tables at Math2.org - A collection of mathematical tables, theorems, and proofs, covering algebra to advanced calculus.
  • Statistics for Everyone - Excellent explanation of basic terms in statistics, including mean, median, percent change, and per capita.
  • MathWright Library - Mathwright is an authoring program for Windows that may be used to create Interactive Mathematics and Science Texts. The "WorkBooks" it creates may be read by students in various learning contexts. For example, they may contain simulations, lessons, laboratory exercises, and animations.

Mathematics Software

  • MathPad Graphing/Scientific Calculator - MathPad is a general purpose graphing/scientific calculator. It uses text input which allows you to see and edit your entire calculation. It runs on a Macintosh and is distributed for free. Developed by Mark Widholm at the University of New Hampshire.
  • MuPAD Computer Algebra System - MuPAD is a system for symbolic and numeric computation, parallel mathematical programming, and mathematical visualization. It was developed at the University of Paderborn in Germany and is distributed for free.
  • NuCALC - This Graphing Calculator for Windows features powerful symbolic and numeric methods for visualizing two and three dimensional mathematical objects. NuCalc is a tool for quickly visualizing math. You type an equation and NuCalc draws it for you without complicated dialogs or commands. Offers a free demo!
  • Guide to Available Mathematical Software - A comprehensive list of math and statistics software packages.
  • SolvOpt - For use with MATLAB. The program SolvOpt (Solver for local optimization problems) handles minimization/maximization of nonlinear, possibly non-smooth objective functions. SolvOpt was written by Dr. Alexei Kuntsevich and Professor Franz Kappel, from the Institute for Mathematics, University of Graz in Austria.
  • Mathematics Experiences Through Image Processing (METIP) - The goal of the METIP project is to use digital image processing to motivate students to stay interested in mathematics. Tutorials and free downloads (such as a pixel calculator) are available at this site.
