Guided Study Session (GSS) Leader

You may be interested in becoming a GSS Leader


GSS Leaders facilitate group study sessions for selected UM courses. The leader, who has previously performed well in the course, functions as a "model student." The leader helps students formulate and answer their own questions by using collaborative and group study strategies.

First semester GSS leaders

GSS leaders with at least one year experience will:

  • Attend the course connected with the GSS
  • Facilitate 1-2, GSS review sessions per week
  • Prepare for each GSS session
  • Enter GSS session attendance
  • Hold office hours each week
  • Attend weekly meetings / provide mentoring to new GSS leaders

Returning leaders receive a stipend based upon their level of participation in the program.

Once the application is completed please submit to Learning Assistance Service Office or Dr. Marinelli at the contact information below. Review of applications for the fall 2012 semester will begin on 4/16/12 and continue until all positions are filled. Once your materials have been reviewed, you may be contacted for an interview.
