Mission statement: LAS supports the University of Maryland's mission by:
  • Fostering the education, critical thinking and intellectual growth of UM students.
  • Helping students develop personal and academic strategies, positive attitudes toward learning and the self, and behaviors which empower them to be successful in college and life.

Vision statement: LAS is the premier academic success service on campus. Through collaboration with other campus partners we provide innovative and supportive services to help all UM students achieve success in college and life.

    • Math Placement Test Preparation Workshops Save time and money by placing into a required math course for your major! Click here> for more information or to register (not required)

    • The Center for Teaching Excellence's has produced an article entitled "When Students Struggle," which discusses student difficulties and ways to help them. Included in this article is a highly complimentary shout out to the Counseling Center's Learning Assistance Service. Well done, LAS!

    • The Guided Study Sessions (GSS) Program offers FREE, regularly scheduled study sessions for several Chemistry, Biology and Physics courses. In GSS, you can develop strategies for studying in the course and prepare for quizzes and tests using a collaborative learning process. See the SPRING 2013 schedule.
